Your daily dental health routine is what every dentist dreams of: You brush after every meal, not just two times a day; you see me every six months, without fail; you use fluoride treatments, as recommended. So why do you still get cavities? Sometimes, no matter how devoted you are to your dental hygiene, cavities are hard to avoid. Even the most devoted brusher has trouble getting into the nooks and crannies of the molars. The good news is that there is a quick and easy treatment that just might help you avoid cavities. What is it?
Prevent Cavities With Sealants
One of the most effective and long-term ways to prevent cavities is with
dental sealants. Sealants are safe, simple, and can be applied at your next regular appointment, in many cases. After your teeth have been cleaned, I will essentially paint a protective coating onto the surface of your molars then cure it with a special light. Once the sealants have hardened, you can return to life as normal. The sealants are tooth colored, so they won’t detract from your smile. Instead, they fill and coat the groves in your molars that are so hard to reach with regular brushing.
While sealants are effective for almost anyone, they are particularly useful for my pediatric patients. Young children and adolescents aren’t known for their devotion to dental care; sealants can bolster their tooth health until they are better able to properly care for their own teeth.
If you or your child are interested in adding a layer of protection against cavities, contact my office to
schedule an appointment for sealants. I look forward to seeing you!
Best,
Dr. Munoz
