Did you know that there is a term for taking care of your teeth before problems arise? It’s called preventative dentistry. We don’t believe you should wait until there is an emergency or you are in severe pain to see a dentist. In addition to steps you can take at home, we practice preventative dentistry at Michelle Munoz, DDS, by offering services that help prevent oral health problems from developing.
Start at Home
Away from our office, you can practice good oral health, which, in turn, promotes overall good health. Eat a healthy, balanced diet and limit snacks. Properly brush, which means at least twice a day and for at least two to three minutes each time. Daily flossing is also recommended. Avoid smoking, but if you do smoke, you will want to visit us more often for checkups due to the increased risks of stained teeth, oral cancer, and gum disease.
Our Part
In addition to being here for regular checkups and cleanings, we offer other preventative services as well.
Dental Sealants — Teeth can become pitted and hard to clean. Children may have difficulty reaching back to brush and floss properly, particularly around the molars. In cases where the teeth are difficult to keep clean, we apply a sealant to protect the surface from food particles and bacteria, and make it smoother and easier to clean.
Fluoride Treatment — Fluoride helps resist tooth decay, and it helps strengthen your teeth. Our treatment delivers safe protection that outperforms over-the-counter solutions. This is especially helpful if you are at high risk for cavities.
X-rays — These help us stay on top of developing problems and catch them sooner. We use digital x-rays so we can perform them in less time and you are exposed to less radiation. In fact, if you are cavity-prone, we recommend getting an x-ray every six months.
Prompt Repair of Suspect Teeth — If a tooth has become cracked, infected, or is in danger of breaking, we will recommend treatment to protect the tooth instead of you waiting until it is an emergency. Bridges, crowns, implants, and dentures are all ways to prevent weakened or missing teeth from causing more serious problems.
You can prevent many oral problems from ever arising. By working together, we can ensure that you have a plan in place that will help keep your smile healthy and beautiful. If you live in the Uvalde, Texas, area, you can take the first step and contact us today for an appointment!
