It astounds me how many of my patients are willing to live with pain. From tender gums to mouth sores and tooth sensitivity to jaw pain, there is no reason to tolerate pain! In fact, you’re doing your body a disservice by ignoring the signals it’s sending to you. Pain means that something is wrong. If you happen to be tolerating jaw pain, STOP! It could be an indication that you are suffering from a disorder of the temporomandibular joint (
TMJ), and luckily, I have a solution for that. Click here to read more.
TMJ vs. TMD
While the terms are used interchangeably, TMJ and TMD are not the same. TMJ is the acronym for the temporomandibular joint (the joint that connects your lower to your upper jaw), while TMD is the acronym for temporomandibular joint disorders; while everyone has a TMJ, not everyone has TMD.
No matter what you call it, TMJ disorders are painful. Not only do they cause pain in the jaw, but a number of other discomforts, as well. Some of those include:
- Headaches
- Earaches
- Neck, shoulder, and back pain
- Pain while chewing, yawning, or talking
- “Lockjaw”
- Clicking, popping, or grating sounds
The good news? There is no reason to tolerate the aches, pains, and noises when a customized dental appliance can provide well-deserved relief.
